Prof. Samir Bensaid
Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy
Biography:
Samir Bensaid got his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2010 at Politecnico di Torino and was Visiting Researcher at University of Houston (USA) in 2015. He is now Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at Politecnico di Torino. He acted as Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Chemical Engineering from 2019 to 2024.
His research activity concerns the field of catalysis and reaction engineering applied to heterogeneous systems, focusing on the design of catalysts and structured reactors for the automotive field, the energy sector and biorefinery processes. He was coordinator of a National Project (SOLYST) funded by the Italian Ministry of Education University and Research (MIUR) on Diesel Engines’ exhaust catalytic aftertreatment (2013-2016), and he currently is coordinator of a National Project (e-Kerometh) funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) on e-fuels synthesis, with a specific focus on sustainable aviation fuels (2025-2026).
He was or currently is the scientific responsible of 5 European Projects within his research institution: STORE&GO (2016-2020) and METHAREN (2022-2027) on Power-to-Gas processes and catalytic solutions, HEAT-TO-FUEL (2017-2021) and NIAGARA (2024-2028) on aqueous phase reforming of organic compounds derived from waste organic feedstock hydrothermal liquefaction and RECODE on CO2 capture and conversion into carbonates to be used as fillers within the cement industry (2017-2021).
He is the author of more than 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, most of which in the field of catalysis. He holds an H-index of 51.
