Research Interests:  

  • Zeolites, metal oxides and nano-structured carbon for catalysis

  • Syngas chemistry

  • Activation of C-H bonds, including methane conversion, acetylene hydrogenation and hydrochlorination

  • Confined catalysis in nanopores

Her recent representative work includes some unique contributions in the field of syngas chemistry. She and her team developed the OXZEO catalyst design concept based on oxides and zeolites, which enables the one-step syngas conversion to light olefins with a selectivity far exceeding the theoretical limit predicted by the well-established Anderson-Schulz-Flory (ASF) distribution model. The OXZEO catalyst affords two types of geometrically separated catalytic sites, which disconnect carbon monoxide and hydrogen activation from C−C bond formation in the reaction. The use of shape-selective zeolites allows breaking of the ASF selectivity boundaries in the field of syngas chemistry. Following this report, a rapidly increasing number of studies have demonstrated that this catalyst concept is versatile and provides a technology platform for selective synthesis of a wide range of other value-added chemicals and fuels from coal, natural gas and biomass via syngas. It is also applicable for CO2 hydrogenation. The technology has been demonstrated at an industrial scale with a 1000 ton/a pilot plant.
