Prof. Krijn de Jong come to visit Dalian Institute of Chemistry and Physics, Chinese Academic of Science from October 14-19, 2024.

Prof. de Jong was a professor of inorganic chemistry and catalysis at Utrecht University. He was the Scientific Director of the Debye Institute for Science of Utrecht University and Vice-Head of the Department of Chemistry. He has made significant contributions in the field of catalyst synthesis, electron microscopy of nanostructured catalysts, hydrocarbon conversions over zeolites, catalysts for liquid-phase catalysis conversion of synthesis gas to fuels and chemicals and hydrogen storage. He was elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences in 2015.

Prof. de Jong held series lectures during his visit. In the first lecture, he gave an overview of the grand challenges to achieve carbon neutrality in the future as well as the vital role of C1-chemistry to achieve this goal. In the following days, he shared his understanding and knowledge about catalysts preparation. Specifically about the composition and size of nanoparticles as well as the accessibility and location of active sites as key parameters to control by catalyst preparation.

Besides these exciting lectures, Prof. de Jong also listened to some ongoing projects from the Ph.D. students and young staffs of Prof. Pan’s group, and discussed with them in detail.

The academic exchange activity of Prof. de Jong has greatly broadened the academic vision of both staffs and students and stimulated our thinking about further research directions.
