Prof. Zhong-Qun Tian was invited as the guest speaker of 48th Zhang Dayu Lecture in the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on August 21, 2025. Prof. Xinhe Bao presided over the lecture. Prof. Can Li, Prof. Tao Zhang, Prof. Zhongwei Chen and more than 180 participants joined this academic events.

Prof. Tian is the Distinguished Professor at the Xiamen University, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He gave a lecture titled "The fundamental scientific reasons and innovation drivers underpinning the enduring prosperity of energy electrochemistry". In the lecture, a comprehensive overview of the more than 220 years of history and milestone events of energy electrochemistry was introduced. Prof. Tian also deeply discussed the fundamental scientific reasons and innovation drivers underpinning the enduring prosperity of energy electrochemistry. He summarized the characteristics and development bottlenecks of electrochemical energy devices and clarified the significant opportunities for artificial intelligence and operando characterization methods to boost the innovation in the fundamental electrochemistry research and the transformation in the electrochemical energy industry. At the end, he encouraged young scientists to enhance their research perspective and form systems thinking.
Zhang Dayu Lectureship was founded in 2006, which was named after Prof. Dayu Zhang, the pioneer of the Chinese catalysis science and founder of DICP. The purpose of this lectureship is to recall Prof. Dayu Zhang’s greatest virtue, rigorous scholarship, and his tremendous contribution to Chinese chemistry and chemical engineering, as well as the development of DICP. Zhang Dayu Lectureship is the most prestigious lectureship at DICP, which honors to internationally or nationally outstanding scientists and scholars with high academic reputation.
